Cooking With Friends

I Love Olives

Yesterday was my birthday (ahem, a big one). In our family, the tradition is for the birthday person to choose all of his or her favorite foods for dinner (no matter how unusual or difficult to find), and we make the meal together. My husband is sure to choose carrot cake, and often lobster. My kids usually vote for spaghetti and meatballs and chocolate cake. Here’s what we had for my dinner last night: Olives (five kinds stuffed with garlic, marinated in lemon, and other varieties), salmon, beet and sweet potato salad, swiss chard with butternut squash, rosemary potato slices, and raspberry cheesecake. It was delicious! What are your favorites?

What a great tradition. Recently I’ve been making Monkey Bars for my two-year-old and she loves them! They are a sneaky way to get great nutrients into your kids. The recipe includes bananas, baby food carrots and sweet potatoes, brown sugar, rolled oats, unbleached flour, vanilla, butter and eggs. You would never know they are actually good for you.
